The Trump administration has launched the CBP Home app to replace the CBP One app, aiming to assist individuals in the U.S. illegally with self-deportation. This new app allows certain migrants to notify the U.S. government of their intent to leave and verify their departure. CBP officials argue that the app enhances enforcement, aligns with executive orders, and bolsters national security.
The app is specifically available to those who were previously paroled into the U.S. under past policies. It offers an “Intent to Depart” feature, which allows users to declare their intention to voluntarily leave the country, potentially avoiding harsher consequences and maintaining the possibility of legal re-entry in the future. Homeland Security Kristy Noem emphasized that migrants who voluntarily depart may still be able to return legally, while those who do not will face deportation and permanent bans.
The CBP Home app is linked to the user’s personal information and uses facial recognition and GPS tracking. Migrants are asked to provide personal details, such as whether they have a passport or enough money to depart.
While CBP One previously allowed asylum seekers to schedule hearings and reduce illegal crossings, Trump officials claim that it was misused under the Biden administration, allowing over a million migrants to enter the U.S. illegally. The new app is seen as part of a broader effort to reverse Biden-era immigration policies and boost deportations.
