By Prime Path Immigration Law Firm Limited USA, on Immigration Updates
Immigration raids across the Chicago area have intensified under Operation Midway Blitz, sparking widespread community backlash and activism. Reports indicate ICE agents have been targeting immigrants near schools and churches, leading to lockdowns, protests, and increased tension. At St. Jerome’s in Rogers Park, agents allegedly staked out a Spanish language mass, while nearby schools in Lincoln Square were forced into lockdown amid ICE presence. Community members, including parents and local officials, have rallied to support affected families, with protests erupting at ICE’s Broadview facility, where 15 demonstrators were recently arrested. A judge has since ordered the removal of protective fencing at the facility, though the local mayor has restricted the protest zone further due to safety and traffic concerns.
Politically the situation remains charged. Democratic leaders like Rep. Delia Ramirez and Governor JB Pritzker have condemned the raids, framing them as authoritarian overreach. Meanwhile the federalized National Guard remains in Illinois, though a court ruling has barred their deployment until further arguments are heard. The restraining order remains in place until October 23. On the other side of the debate, Vice President JD Vance has publicly supported deploying the Guard to address crime in Chicago, framing the move as a necessary response to violence rather than immigration enforcement.
